Today we start sailing from Kos in Greece to Mallorca in Spain. I sail as mate for Jan, a Belgian guy who I met while doing my yachtmaster exam. He is currently employed as skipper of Lady in Red who is owned by a wealthy Portuguese gentleman. We sail non-stop to Palma in Mallorca and it should take us about seven days all going well. We head through the Greek islands around the south of Pelepponese, into the Ionian Sea, south of the Italian mainland then through the straights of Messina, south of Sardinia, and then finally across to Mallorca. About 1,100 nautical miles. Lady in Red is a 78ft Swan Nautor. Very niiiiice! First time on a boat this size for me. Electric winches, hydraulic vang, outhaul, forestay and running backstays. All the usual kit you expect to see on a big boat. Luckily not much grinding is expected! We're cruising along now in the sun, making an easy 10kts in a 20kt northerly. Very nice. Now where has that bottle of ouzo gone?
